Duo with Hye Young Sin

Hye Young Sin and Pedro Ramirez are a duo of sound artists based in Cologne, Germany. Their shared interest is to develop sonic experiments that blend the inner properties of acoustic and electronic sound, enhancing the experience of sound and placing the sonic variety at the core of their creative process.
Live at Impakt Bruitkasten
The improvised performance explores the idea of creating acoustic ecosystems by using home appliances activated with small motors along with lowercase electronic sound manipulation techniques. Through this sonic interaction, it attempts to build up live-sounding narratives that blur musical categories of the acoustic and the electronic and therefore raise awareness of minuscule sound realities. Their approach actively involves low volume and diffusion of sound in the air as an aesthetic principle. By doing so, the artists draw attention to silence as an active agent during the performance, one that is traversed by multiple rhythms of motors and crisp electronic tones.

One Morning
Sin and Ramírez explore the concept of companionship evoked by the breakfast table—a modest yet profound setting where participants collectively engage in. The setting fulfills not only the primal need for sustenance but also nurtures the collaborative process of creation through the combination of carefully selected ingredients. The duo intertwines the aural possibilities of everyday objects found in the mundane breakfast ritual, combining them with the subtle distortions generated by reel-to-reel analog tape loops and the sonorities of electro-magnetic feedback.
